Call for works: Brand New Wind Music Day with Philip Sparke and Pete Meechan

Date Uploaded: August 22, 2012

BASBWE present a Brand New Wind Music Day with Philip Sparke and Dr. Pete Meechan in association with the Derbyshire City & County Youth Wind Band.

BASBWE has teamed up with the Derbyshire City & County Youth Wind Band to offer a fantastic opportunity for emerging composers to have a piece worked on by a county youth band in a supportive environment, mentored by British composers Philip Sparke and Pete Meechan.

The event will take place on Sunday 13th January at Hayes Conference Centre, Swanwick near Alfreton, Derbyshire. BASBWE will select 4 to 6 works to be included in the day.

The works should be of up to US Grade 4.5 standard, and can be of any length (with longer works, the panel may select movements or sections only to be worked on)

Pieces must not have been published, and normally will not yet have received a formal premiere. There is no age limit. The Derbyshire City & County Youth Wind Band will aim to programme at least one of the chosen works the following season.

In addition to working with Philip Sparke, the composers will get feedback on the practicalities of what they have written from conductor, Yibin Seow, and the band's wind, brass & percussion tutors.

Scores should be submitted electronically in pdf format with a midi file and a brief cv of the composer no later than Friday 16th November to Peter Meechan:

Successful composers will be notified within 14 days and printed score and parts will be required by mid-December.
